Exit Ads On Websites - Are They Truly Effective?
By Fabian TanThere's been an surge of exit ad software on the market in recent times. Many are still undecided as to whether they are truly effective. But do they really increase your profits? Let's take a look at their pros and cons:
PROS
- They create a sense of urgency
- The grab the visitor just as he is about to leave
Let's say 2 out of a 100 people who visit your site buy your product. What happens to the other 98 people? Without an exit ad, they are lost forever! By putting the mechanism in, you can capture some of these 98 people on your list and market to them. You can also offer a special discount or special bonuses not available on the main page to persuade them to buy your product.
Another way you can use these ads is to ask your visitor why he did not buy. This is a free product research for you.
CONS
- They can be annoying to visitors
- What if the visitor didn't really want to leave?
Sometimes a visitor might just place his cursor over the Address bar and your ad will pop up, even though he didn't really want to leave. I know this is annoying because it has happened to me before. Also, many web surfers have grown tired of popup ads although they DO work.
My advise if your pursuing this marketing technology is to use it to improve the user experience of your visitor, so as to maximize it's effectiveness.
